According to this NY Times Article, in 2008, “…external analgesic rubs had approximately $275 million in sales in the United States, excluding sales at Wal-Mart.” That’s a whole lotta cash dropped on products that may-or may not-offer consumers any real relief. Even so, the placebo is apparently powerful enough to keep these products on the shelves. The PlaceboĪs I mentioned earlier, creams like Icy Hot have been proven to offer more of a placebo effect than any true healing properties. So, if your pain is impacting your daily activities, it’s best to see a medical professional who can get to the bottom of what’s hurting you. And if you’re so distracted from the pain that you aren’t aware when a particular activity is causing it, you could end up injuring yourself worse. Pain is a cue that something in your body is amiss. Furthermore, this distraction can actually cause more harm than good. While you might find the temporary distraction a welcome relief, you aren’t actually treating the source of your pain. Icy Hot is designed to divert your attention from your pain by masking it with cooling and warming sensations. If not, you could end up needing medical intervention. Furthermore, the same study shows that if a child ingests the ingredient, the toxicity is even more severe: “In children less than 6 years of age, a teaspoon (5 mL) or less of oil of wintergreen has been implicated in several well-documented deaths.”Īll risks considered, hopefully you’re following all of the manufacturer’s guidelines. According to this study, “Serious toxicity can result from exposure to small amounts of methyl salicylate.” That’s pretty frightening. This ingredient can be toxic, and if you overuse it, you could suffer some seriously dangerous effects. But that’s not the case, especially when it comes to methyl salicylate. However, most people assume such over-the-counter remedies are 100% safe-in any quantity or application. If you read the warning labels for products like this, you’ll see that they do warn against ingestion and overuse. a combination of menthol and methyl salicylate.3 Reasons to Rethink Your Menthol Cream Habit The IngredientsĪccording to Icy Hot, the ingredients contain: Thanks. The anti-inflammatories you picked up at the drugstore certainly have their place in the pain relief cast of characters, but what does that Icy Hot really have to offer? Do you even know what’s in Icy Hot? Why is it so hot? And icy? Well, according to this NY Times article, when it comes to Icy Hot, “the only real benefit could be that of a placebo.” Ouch (literally). Then, beams produced in Differdange will definitely keep on drawing attention. The statement also adds, “For BSB, J57 represents a smaller prototype for a 220-storey building that BSB planned to build, the J220, better known as Sky City. “BSB’s focus is on green construction, and one of the convincing arguments for BSB to use ArcelorMittal Differdange steel is that all our beams are made of scrap,” a statement issued by ArcelorMittal Luxembourg said. It also incorporates integrated, installable floor slabs, light wallboard and other prefabricated materials.Īccording to BSB architect Xian Min Zhang, the use of modules in the construction of J57 reduced the use of concrete by 15,000 trucks, which he says almost eliminated the release of dust in the air, an important advantage in pollution-ridden China. The process is based on a factory-fabricated steel structure system and on-site installation, using flanges and high strength bolts to join the construction members. J57 will include 800 apartments and provide office space for 4,000 people. The J57 skyscraper is built with 90 per cent factory-produced, LEGO-like blocks, using a modular construction technique which won BSB a CTBUH Innovation Award in 2013. 1 2 The company has ambitions to use similar techniques to build a much larger project, Sky City, which is intended to be 220 stories tall. Supplied in several different grades, HISTAR has been used in many skyscrapers worldwide such as the Freedom Tower in New York and the World Financial Center in Shanghai. It was built in 19 days in 2015 by Broad Sustainable Building, a subsidiary of China's Broad Group, using a modular construction system. HISTAR steels are quenched and self-tempered (QST) steels with outstanding weldability and ductility. The core of the J57 building, also known as Mini Sky City, has been built using a total of 10,345 tonnes of HISTAR beams supplied by ArcelorMittal Europe – Long Products plant in Differdange. Broad Sustainable Building constructs J57, world’s tallest prefab building, a 57-floor, 180,000-square-metre skyscraper in just 19 daysīroad Sustainable Building recently made headlines in the architecture world when they completed the construction of a 57-storey high-rise in Changsha, China, in a record 19 days – the equivalent of three storeys per day. Ionic bonding takes place if the variation in electronegativity among two participating atoms is high. Let us now move on to understand the ionic bond. Covalent compounds are insoluble in water. Compounds developed via covalent bonding cannot conduct electricity due to the absence of free-flowing electrons.ĩ. Several compounds having covalent bonds carry comparatively moderate melting and boiling points and lower enthalpies of vaporization and fusion.Ĩ. After the covalent bonds are formed, the bond-breaking rarely occurs instinctively.ħ. The average energy carried by a covalent bond is approx ~80 kcal/mol.Ħ. Covalent bonding results in a powerful chemical bond among the atoms.ĥ. Covalent bonds involve single, double, or triple bonds wherein two, four, or six electrons are shared, respectively.Ĥ. No new electrons are formed during the formation of a covalent bond instead, only pairing takes place.ģ. Covalent bond formation occurs among non-metallic elements, namely hydrogen, oxygen, etc.Ģ. The covalent bond properties are listed below:ġ. Let us now examine the properties of covalent bonds. The stability of these triple bonds is very less compared to the single and double bonds.Īll these covalent bonds possess several characteristics. If three electron pairs are shared among the two atoms, such bonds are termed triple covalent bonds. These double bonds are considered significantly stronger as compared to a single bond, although they are not much stable. It is represented as using a double dash (=). If two electron pairs are shared among the two atoms, such bonds are termed double covalent bonds. However, single covalent bonds are the most stable bond. This covalent bond possesses a lower density and is considered weaker compared to the double and triple bonds. If one electron pair is shared among the two atoms, such bonds are termed single covalent bonds. What are the different types of Covalent Bonds?īased on the number of shared electron pairs, the covalent bond can be categorized into: The covalent bonds have various categories depending on the number of shared electrons. Thus, carbon can’t accept or lose electrons, therefore, to achieve its noble gas configuration and complete the octet, it prefers sharing electrons, thereby forming a covalent bond. Besides, the C4+ would hold just two electrons by proton, thereby making the carbon unstable. In the same way, carbon can’t donate four electrons, as it would need a huge quantity of energy to eliminate four electrons. A carbon atom can’t accept four electrons, as it would be difficult for six protons to have ten electrons, and therefore the stability of the carbon will be disturbed.Ģ. Read out the article on the covalent nature of SO2.Ĭonsidering the electronic configuration of the carbon atom, it demands to accept or donate four electrons to achieve stability, which appears unlikely as:ġ. The other way is the sharing of electrons among different atoms, as seen in H2O, SO2, and CH4. First is the sharing of electrons among similar atoms, like in the case of H2, O2, etc.Ģ. Two approaches to form covalent bondingġ. The covalent bonds are moreover named molecular bonds. However, the transfer of electrons among two atoms having comparable electronegativity will not occur from their outermost shell rather, they will share electrons to fill the valence electron shell. These bonds are mainly formed within nonmetals or among the same elements. Since we are discussing the possibility of an ionic bond or covalent bond in CS2, let us dive more into the details about an ionic and covalent bond.Ī covalent bond is produced by the equal sharing of electrons among the participating atoms. Therefore, the sharing of electrons among the participating atoms makes the bond in CS2 a covalent bond. As a result, the carbon atom shares two electrons with each sulfur atom forming a double bond. The electronegativity difference among the carbon and sulfur atom is nearly 0.03, and thus the bond between them is hardly even polar. So, is CS2 ionic or covalent? CS2 is a covalent molecule as both the carbon and sulfur atoms have nearly the same electronegativity values. So, what do you think about the bonding between the sulfur-carbon-sulfur bond? It implodes in the air and quickly catches fire. In contrast, impure carbon disulfide, typically utilized in several manufacturing purposes, is a yellowish liquid with a disagreeable odor, similar to rotten vegetables.Ĭarbon disulfide volatilizes at normal temperature, and the vapor is two times heavier as compared to air. Carbon disulfide, also known as carbon bisulfide or disulfide carbon is a chemical name for CS2, which consists of carbon and sulfide ions.Ĭarbon disulfide is a colorless liquid having a pleasing smell, somewhat similar to chloroform. It was during this time that Frank and Gary's songwriting flourished. He was also able to get Baker a job with Marie playing bass after Gary's band The Shooters disbanded. Myers left Raven in 1990 to play for Marie Osmond. While working for Raven, Myers met Gary Baker with whom he later became the songwriting duo Baker & Myers. "You and I" was the number one country song for four weeks, number two AC for two weeks, and number six Pop for 4 weeks. It became his first single by Eddie Rabbitt and Crystal Gayle. In 1982, Myers wrote " You and I" for his wife. These include "I Got Mexico", "Bayou Boys", "You Should've Been Gone By Now", and "Sometimes A Lady". They produced two number ones, five number twos, and three top ten songs. It was within this time while working for Raven that Myers started writing, playing, and co-producing songs. He later became the band leader and road manager for Raven. Myers was hired by Eddy Raven as a guitar player. In 1981, Myers and his wife moved to Nashville, Tennessee to pursue his career in the music business. During his time in Country Earth he met his wife Belinda Watkins. formed a group called "Country Earth" with Paul Barton and Ted Hartman. He still has close ties with the community.Īt 14 he guest-starred on the Porter Wagoner TV show. After winning a local contest called StarTrail he started opening shows at Dayton's Hara Arena. These 40 plus years in which so many "firsts" and "exclusives" became part of the story and history of one of the greatest lead singers and most admired and accomplished vocal groups in pop music, prompted music and entertainment writer Joseph Sasfy of the Washington Post to call them, "possibly the greatest tight vocal harmony group of all time".Frank Joseph Myers (born July 3, 1957) is an American country music singer, songwriter, and record producer. In fact, the artist/management relationship between Beaumont/SKYLINERS/Rock is the second longest such relationship in the entertainment industry. This quintet constituted the formal group of vocalists. The original line-up included Wally Lester, Jack Taylor, Joe Verscharen, and Janet Vogel. The Skyliners are an American doo-wop group from Pittsburgh, fronted by Jimmy Beaumont. The music was written by lead singer Jimmy Beaumont and the lyrics by Joseph Rock. "This I Swear" released in May 1959 was The Skyliners' second hit record, reaching #26 on Billboard Hot 100 and #20 on the R&B chart. Listen to This I Swear (Stop YouTube Video First) |
